Hi i have just taken delivery of the new Canon 600mm/4 version 2 which is much lighter then the old version. I am looking into getting above tripod and was wondering if there are any users of this tripod? I am also interested to know how firmly the top plate is connected to the tripod. Would not like to have the rig fall off the tripod.

Many thanks for any input

I have the Benro C4770, it will take 25kg rather than the 18kg the 3770 is rated at.

TBH I think you need the higher rated tripod for a lens like the 600mm MkII!!!

I looked at Gitzo in Mifsud's, beautiful products but at twice the price, or more, I'm very happy with Benro, very stable, extends to higher than my eye level with a gimbal head mounted, (I'm 6ft 1").

Re the top plate - no problems here, seems secure, I carry my 600mm MkI over my shoulder on the extended tripod as I stagger around Shapwick Heath.

I have the C397, the fore runner to the one you mention, rated the same. It held my Sigma 3-800 with gripped body easily. It now hold my 500 F4 with ease.

A good mate of mine has the heavier duty one, he is nearly 7 foot tall though and needed the extra height. I`m 6 foot 2 and the smaller one is fine.

I have no experience with the Benro, I use a Gitzo, however I did fit one of these plates, which prevent the top plate coming adrift, not sure if the Benro is built the same way, or if this plate would fit, but it should give you an idea of how to secure the top plate if you fancy making something yourself (which a few people have). Thanks very much. Yes i know this plate from Naturescapes but it will not fit on anything else than Gitzo's. Many thanks for your replies, much appreciated!
