Behind the goal cameras and how to trigger them?

Yes
I've been experimenting a little bit with doing this but with a gopro. Now obviously IQ isn't brilliant and I know a few of you on here use your spare body to do this.

I presume there's some way of remote triggering your camera when you fire the main body (say, using the 70-200) for goal mouth action?

cheers in advance.

Fire it using flash triggers plugged into the camera suck as 603ii's?

Do 603iis work - I've got a set of 603s and they don't trigger from one camera to the remote - 602s work fine

Hi Lee,

I'm assuming this is not for DATACO covered games ie any pro /acadamey levels?, "any specific "Video" equipment is not allowed at dataco controlled games"?. I use a remote camera with the 602 N's which as you know trigger from a 10pin connection cable! the 603's are more Flash orientated & do not accept any remote camera cable!.

Thanks Graham,
It's for NOrthern Premier League at the mo, until I get a call to cover the World Cup final.......like Capt. Oates I may be some time!! :)

I have not tried yet, but I just bought a Meike battery grip for my 7D2 which has a remote control that they claim works up to 100m away to fire the camera. It works on a '2.4GHz wireless channel' and I have managed to fire the camera in my apartment from about 10 metres away with walls between. Now I just need a really wide lens to test behind the goal with!

Grip cost me about 55 pounds and it's bloody great. Didn't buy it for the remote but it's a great bonus.

Grab a couple of Pocket Wizard plus II triggers on eBay and use them. One on the hotshoe of the camera in your hand, one on the remote with a cable to the shutter trigger port.

Cheers Tobers.
I've found some equivalents by Dorr which are £120 so may invest in them.

Don't waste your money. I'm pretty much willing to bet that those triggers will fire on manual input only. Triggers that work from the hotshoe (and work well/reliably) are comparatively rare.
Go for either PWs or Y602s.

Yongnuo 602's here :)

Cheers Bigrob and if they're small enough I can hide them from the Mrs

I just bought some Yongnuo 603Cii's. Anyone know if there is any way of using a foot switch with them?

There was a post on here a while ago using a guitar foot pedal, it was possibly for pocket wizards. Might have been Tobers?

Do you want a wire less foot switch or a cable?

Many moons ago I modified a Canon Cable remote by cutting it in two and putting S-video male & female connectors on the ends. This allowed me to carry with me a short S-video cable for close by stuff and a 10metre one for distance work. It wouldn't be too hard to modify the hand trigger for foot operation.

Personally I would just go wireless with 602's unless there is a particular reason not to.

Why don't you just go down to Maplin with the remotes and try them? That is what I did and they were happy for me to try them out.

Look for this footswitch, then plug in a step down connector to 3.5mm or whatever size the 603s are.

Got an old Nikon D50 is there anyway i can use this as a remote camera ?

Sounds good. Sorry, I meant that a foot pedal wired to the trigger at my end would be fine, the remote camera needs to be wireless, it sits around 20 meters away and I can't lay cables around the pitch!

The 603's work really well. They trigger perfectly, not sure what the advantage of the 602's is? Is it that they fire every time you press shutter on the non remote camera? But then that leaves you with a hell of a lot of rubbish to sort through?

Thanks mate, don't have maplin here in Aus (to be fair, never heard of it in the UK either? Is it a Southern thing?), but I may be able to find somewhere similar.

My next plan is to try to flip off the button on the 603's and solder a wire to each contact then attach the foot pedal to that. Need to buy a soldering iron first though! Ha

You must have electrical shops and music shops.

There is only one socket on the 603 and it is 2.5mm. I also think it is just an output, not being very good with electronics I'm not sure it could be used as an input. The only thing I'm thinking is wiring up the buttons contacts to the pedal. Anyway, I'm going to have a mess about. Will let you know if I succeed with anything, I ordered a pedal from China (the one you posted up was actually based in Oxford!) so won't be here for a couple of weeks. Thanks so much for the help though.

Ah yes let us know.

I have Yongnuo 602's and am well pleased with them, much cheaper than pocket wizards too. Yes, there is a lot of rubbish to sort through, but it's pretty easy and quick to pick the good ones out, or those that might be good. Surprising how high the hit rate can be with a wide angle behind the goal.

Was thinking about getting one of the Go Pro copies the SJCam 4000 for behind the goal video / pics anyone used one ?

Just FYI don't waste your time trying to wire a pedal to a Yongnuo trigger. Just buy a pocket wizard if you want to use a pedal. :-)

Looks like I'll just get some 602's for now then. Though when using only one camera to cover the game, the remote camera will be working over time which I'd ideally want to avoid, apart from the amount of stuff to wade through for the good shots, it's pointless wear on the shutter.
