Hi all

Just curious what people recommend for photo management and processing.

I have iPhoto and Photoshop CS5 already, although PS is for web design stuff so I've never used it for photo processing.

Is it worth investing in something like Lightroom or upgrading to Aperture or is what I've got good enough?

Look forward to your thoughts.

you can download a free trial of lightroom for a month then have a play and see if it is something you would use

As you have CS5, why not get the hang of processing on that rather than spend on Lightroom or whatever? If you find CS5 doesn't do what you want, then go for something else.

CS5 is just about the best all-round photo processing programme on the planet.

Apple's Aperture is less than half the price of Lightroom, and is superb for organising your photo collection (I would argue better than Lightroom). You can also edit in Aperture or make it open for editing in CS5 and save the changes back.

I'm not in front of my computer right now, but I'm almost certain you can download a free trial of Aperture from the Apple site. Why not download this as well and compare them all?

Edit: The Aperture free trial can be downloaded from http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial/

You've already got one of the best pixel level editors available, especially when combined with Bridge.

Lightroom is fantastic, but learn to use what you've got first before spending anymore money.

Thanks for all the advice.

I'll take a look at the trials, but will definitely see what I can do with CS5 before investing in other software.

For the actual organising etc iPhoto takes a lot to beat (and then you can move to Aperture, it's bigger brother if you feel the need).
