Beginner Flash gun - help!?

Hi,

I want to get a flash gun for my Canon 400D - obviously i have a pop up flash, but i want something that i can use for a wider use.

Any ideas on what would be a good Flash gun for a beginner? (i say beginner in the sense of using a flash gun.... )

Do you have any sort of budget in mind? My choice would be the 430EX II for around £200 (or £150 second hand)

Get a flash that will talk to your camera through ETTL I pratted about with cheap flash for so long then bought a 580 EX II an Excellent piece of kit that looks after itself

Well budget is under £150 im looking to get second hand preferably for my first flash gun. Just to get then hang of it etc

you could get a simple jessops 360afd flashgun for £100 and as far as i know it has i-ttl and e-ttl compatibility.

I'd go for a secondhand 550EX for that budget.

Or if you can't find a 550EX then get a 430 EX as that should be sufficient

A local camera shop were doing 430EXs at £100 - I'm not sure if they have any left but they are based in Royal Arcade Cardiff - I think they are called Cameraland - might be worth a google and a phone call
