Beginner - Canon 350d or 400d?

Wooooahh hold your horses there my pathogenic bacterial friend!

This was your question:

You didn't mention financial restrictions, I took the basic assumption that you had the cash...

Given that few camera bits come in less than fifty quid a shot, perhaps a DSLR isn't the game for you?

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't having a go
I wouldn't say I'm financially restricted, because I can save and save, but my point is:
Why spend £150 more of my hard earned cash on a camera that isn't that much better?

And I am most certain that a DSLR is the game for me :P
I've wanted one for as long as I can remember, and now I finally have an excuse and enough money to buy one.

Ok, let me try once more... I think that once you are into this you will see that the 400D has things that you will be able to appreciate and that at that point you will think "I wish I had paid the extra bit".

I had a 350D and it wasn't worth upgrading to the 400D *once I had the 350D*. Buying from new, buy the 400D. Then you won't need to buy another camera for a little while as the 400D closes the gap with the other higher end stuff a fair bit.

The difference between all DSLR's is minor on paper, but there are subtle things that make your life easier and that eventually you will appreciate.

It doesn't have a "boost artistic talent button" or the "solve world peace" menu option, but what it does have IS worth the extra money over the 350D and no doubt about it.

Thats it, I'll shut up now :D

Are you for real? Is talkphotography big-brother like? Or was it a page load error etc....?

I was a member of a forum (won't link and shame) and they were so anal about alot of things and went round delting things... not a good environment. Please tell me TP is not like this! :-)

Oopps, I made a mistake :shake:. I had posted my comment in another thread entirely, and thought that it had been posted in this one.. What a numpty :(, sry TPF!:p.

As for the 350d-400d, having used both quite a lot, the only difference worth noting is the screen size :). Everything else is practically identical as far as the taking of the photo is concerned (and with >8MP printing larger prints from the 350d certainly isn't an issue).
