I would have thought an oil will just bind everything together and you'll end up with the equivalent of a grinding paste in the joints. If it was me I'd give the tripod a good wash with fresh water to dislodge the sand, and then leave it somewhere warm to dry.
As above rinse with water, so that any salt gets flushed out. Thoroughly dry and then I'd just lightly wipe over the legs with a tiny bit of WD-40 on a cloth.
tnx for the advise people will do. having a back ground in rc off road racing it was common practise to spray the whole thing with WD 40 until everything commons a pudding
Yep in the bath with it and hose it down with fresh water to remove the sand, dry it out completely with a hairdryer so all the joints are nice a dry, it will be fine
