I have my low use D700 for sale and have been offered a swap for a Fuji X-T1 18-55 lens, some other prime lenses (nothing to go crazy over) 2 batteries, is this a decent swap as I have tried looking at prices but they seem all over the place, and would I be bothered using it as my D810 is on its way?

Having moved over to Fuji from Nikon a number of years ago, I would go with the swap. The XT-1 along with the 18-55mm is a superb combination for all sorts of general photography. You never know Pete, a few weeks with this and you might be a convert. :-)

Go for it, you'll have your full frame camera still, why not have a light, solid, fun camera on side for more casual use? I went directly from a D800E and big hefty lenses to the Fuji XT1 and I couldn't have been happier. The XT1 is still a lovely little camera, produces tasty quality images, it's weather sealed and a joy to use. I have sold it on since as I wanted to give M43 a try for a while, but I would happily buy one again for the right price. I had the 35mm f/1.4 glued to mine mostly. Also get the grip for it if you would prefer it a little larger, feels great with one attached, it's like a mini D4

D810? …brilliant, I love that thing!
Do you really need two systems?

That was exactly what I was thinking Kodiak, I really don't like small cameras so would just end up trying to sell it, so it looks like I will just stick to original plans, sell the 700 and invest in more glass ;)

IMO, yes. The X-T1 makes a lovely smaller option to an FF kit. While the 18-55 is a "kit" lens, it can only be classed as such because it's often supplied in a kit - it's far better than any other "kit" lens I've used.

yes it is very nice to have dslr and mirrorless. Mirrorless are actually better in some ways

Reminds me of a joke - a man walks into a shop and says 'a lens cap for my Nikon please' - the shop owner pauses a moment, and says 'Ok. Fair swap'.

For the sake of a pound or two here and there - if you're both happy with the deal - go for it... Try it out - if you don't like it - you can always sell it on...

If you need the proceeds of the D700 for more gear with the 810, it’s a no brainier, but seeing as you are asking the question I assume you aren’t too bothered. It would be nice to have a go with the Fuji, BUT you then have the hassle of getting rid of the Fuji if you don’t like it. But what cymruchris says is probably right, give it a go.

I don't get this "2 system" thing people keep bringing up on here - it's another camera ... you're hardly going to go mad buying into the Fuji system just because of it. But, if you don't like small cameras, what was the point of this thread? You're not going to trade for it if you dislike small cameras, as it is very much, a small camera
