Hi guys I got this email earlier on

Hello Phil,

It's Dom Krief from Farsley. Hope your well! I am wondering what your diary has in it for next Wednesday 13th in the evening because I have organised a charity football match between the school staff football team and a celebrity XI at Garforth Town FC.

It is the third year we have done it and it is a massive occasion but the only problem is the last 2 years the photographers have not been up to scratch and I have been really impressed with your work at the Farsley games and so was hoping you may want to add another game to your portfolio. We will obviously put your website around school and at the game for people to see, but we have had a couple of local photographers contact us wanting to do the game but I would much rather have you do it if your able to.

Can you let me know asap please and if you can I am truly grateful.

Further details

It is Garforth Academy Staff Team Vs M1 Management Celebrity team featuring players from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Waterloo Road, Shameless, Dancing on Ice and some former professional footballers. These include BAFTA winner Danny Miller and others such as Kelvin Fletcher, Adam Thomas, Lucien Laviscount and Elliott and Luck Tittensor.

ALL money raised will go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Shannon Bradshaw Trust and Mzuvele High School in South Africa which is our link school in Durban.

Now this has come at a great time for me as i've been contemplating selling up and using the money towards a deposit. Now having someone appreciate my work and hopefully opening up a few avenues for further work I have agreed to shoot it.

Now the thing is (and I hope I don't get flamed for this) I have agreed to do it without mentioning any payment. I see it as an opportunity to shoot a big event with the possibility to sell images via my site.

I have also contacted the YEP to see if they are interested in doing a piece on it (obviously I would charge the press for any of my images :D)
:)

I ahve done two charity football matches.. one within the last few months... I gave all the pictures away on facebook wihtout watermark and gave a DVD to the organisors to do what they want wiht the pics... I didnt take a penny off anyone..

I would rather pass up the job than be seen to be profiting from charity work.... this is local charity that local commnity are knocking themselves out organising.. big national charities wouldnt bother me as every man and his dog has there fingers in them :(

I did an Emmerdale All stars v Walefield Wildcats for charity, it was for a fund set up in the name of a Wakefield player who died suddenly in training (Adam Watene) didn't expect nor ask for payment.

Do you think i'm wrong charging the YEP for images should they want some?

I phoned MI yesterday and Andi said he'll be sending the contracts out in the next 2 weeks so i'll see what happens. He kept calling me Paul so hope he's got the right addy for me :D

I think in view of you and Tony doing such work for free maybe I should just let the organisers have the images for free rather than sell prints on my site?

I suppose good Karma could come my way afterwards:D

Off topic slightly, my mate used to play for Garforth after he left Donny Rovers

If YP want them Phil they'll likely either send a staffer or use one of the several freelancers they use regularly, think you'll find the staffers take care of most things during the football off season though but no harm in asking.

Hi Phil,
I can see where Tony is going with this but I think if you posted the same thing in the Business section you may get a different answer.

If you are free and not doing anything then do it. You will get some publicity, possibly some traffic on your website.

I also did some work for The Adam Watene fund raiser down at Cas and donated three disks to the guys organising the event.

Willie Poachin and several other of the Southern hemisphere players were there too.
It sort of paid dividends in the long run, Willie was attending a Junior rugby festival where the organisers had asked him to present all the medals. Yours truly was the official photographer, His attendance at the prize giving made the sales a lot better than if it were just some Joe Bloggs presenting.

I guess Karma Prevailed !

Recognise anyone

Excuse the noise, these were taken back in the days of shooting Canon

I woudlnt sell prints on my site from a charity event.. even if i had an agreement to hand profits to the charity i wouldnt... I just dont want people "thinking" I am making money from charity work

But each to his own of course :)

I'm the opposite, i covered the game for the charity for free but sold prints myself, not of the Pro RL Players but of the Emmerdale stars themselves, my pics, my choice.

EXACTLY... This is why I hate people telling other people what they should or shouldnt do... advise yes....say what you would do yes.. but should never tell anyone what to do...its exactly as you say mate.. your pics your choice .. my pics my choice.. his pics his choice :)

I'm in the camp that runs them through my own site - either in open public view or in locked galleries. Depending on the circumstances these could either be freebie downloads, paid but with all profits to the cause (and advertised as such), or for profit.

The reason that I prefer to run it via my site is simply to generate awareness, but it's entirely down to individual preference in exactly the same way as donating one's time is!

Good news for your Phil.

I'm also of the view that not everything is done for money. Hopefully it will lead to other opportunities but if not at least you will have done your bit for others in need.

I wouldn't have qualms though about selling photos of "the stars" from your website though.

same here... my thoughts where on small charity matches that I have covered.. not stars :)

Stars eh..

You should be outside shooting the stars (in the sky) with your 70-200/2.8 II...
