Had anyone bought a need recently? Mrs A sent me out to look at beds for the house move......had same bed for years.......[PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] me! the price of a mattress ....I could go on holiday for a fortnight lol

Any suggestions on places to buy beds or places to stay clear off.....

we used this company online when we bought our house 5 years ago, and had no issues at all. saved a small fortune compared to local suppliers. Especially on the Mattress

Take a look at HotUKDeals for some good deals. The user comments are helpful.

Well, beds and mattresses are related but not necessarily connected! We had a divan bed with drawers under it for years and stuck with the mattress it came with for ages too. When the mattress finally died, we (coincidentally!) got married and the MiL gave us some money towards a new one so we went round all the bed shops and other stockists of mattresses and tried about 20! We ended up with a multi layered memory foam one which was quite expensive but has lasted 7 1/2 years so far and is still going strong. When Dad passed away a few years back, we took his bed - a solid wooden framed one with a slatted base. The old divan was so easy to dismantle to fit in the car for the dump run, I'm surprised it didn't collapse in normal use!

I think I'm the only person who hates the memory foam matresses.

I feel your pain, I thought about a new one recently too,
but they are well over 8 quid now :(
:D

Can't recommend anywhere as I decided mine was OK after all :D

I don't see what all the fuss is about either.
Hot yes, uncomfortable yes!
A couple of nights on one was more than enough for me !

One piece of very good advice I was once given was to spend as much money as needed on a bed and a pair of shoes. Chances are you'll spend most of your life in one or the other.

Ruth (and other memory foam haters), try a multi layered one. Ours allows plenty of airflow through the body of the mattress and keeps us cooler than our old spring one did.

I've got a bag of silver thrupp'ny bits if you want 'em

I just don't like the "feel" of the foam ones Nod. And at the ridiculous amount they cost, I'll be beggared if I'm trying another.

Be very careful! You-know-who will be along soon to tell you what's really hot in bed!! :banghead:

And posting about your thrupp'ny bits is only gonna attract him here ...

And posts like that are going to earn you a clip round the earhole, fella :bat:

You will have to join the queue though, I get automatic first dibs on any ear clipping :D

My ears aren't hairy! :(

And you can't stuff matresses with it either!! :p

And I was about to add, did you realise (Ruth)
that thrupp'ny bits are rhyming slang?

I'll let you figure out for what though :D

It sounds vile so I've chosen to ignore it lol :-)

Not really, just the "Bits" is the bit that rhymes with a small bird ;)
Blue/coal/long tailed etc :D

Ahhhhh...not as bad as I'd imagined lol

Have to admit, I've recently bought a new memory foam mattress for my single bed after the spring in the old one was threatening to burst forth and stab my privates (or bum) and while the comfort factor is vastly improved, I don't half get sweaty at night. I have solved the issue somewhat by placing a layer of linen on it and then putting the top sheet over it. However, on the other hand, it is nice in the winter.
