After using one of these on loan from John at Millers Wood, decided I would get one, went for a double so I can use it on car window
and fences,
Found just what I wanted at Speed Graphics, but it came unfilled, their suggestion was polystyrene balls to keep the weight down.
Has anyone ever tried to find a small amount of the damn things I could only buy them by the sackful at a cost of £10ish
and I only wanted a large bowlful :banghead:
So I traipsed round charity shops in hope of finding one, no luck, but I did find one of these for the princely sum f £1
Perfect, just the right amount to fill the bag, fabric is heavier then the small beans, only down side is they are escape artists
and go every where :D

why not just use the cushion?

Use bird seed - when stuck can also be used to get them where you want them.

You could also use rice or split peas or any boring dried beans I'd think.

I found the polystyrene beads tend to get a bit squished with the big lens (Siggy 150-600mm) so my bean bag was getting decidely flat. It was also so light it didn't hold the lens stable anywhere. I tried dried split lentils (they were the cheapest option in the supermarket....) but then found it was just too damned heavy to carry round all day. Now I have a mix of about 75% plastic pellets and 25% lentils to give it a bit of weight for stability. It feels just right now, but the pellets weren't cheap.

Because the cover is stretchy and weight on it would sink into it, thus negating the reason for using it

The lighter the fill, the less stable the bag is. I use safflower seeds as a nice compromise.

Seems quite stable for what I require, just to support the weight on a hide/fence or car window

Like that idea but would it need to be kept dry :)
Also wouldn't that add weight which I am trying to avoid

Once again the weight problem for me

The polystyrene beads in the cushion are slightly bigger then the sprinkles on cakes/icecream, I'll see how they go for now

Thanks for all the replies, might help others looking for filling too
