Anyone's on the BE upto 24 meg Broadband and are happy, unhappy with it?

Think Marcel has this and recommends it....its him or someone :p - damn I am helpfull

Theyre great in my opinion.

No capping, no throttling. Clear pricing policy. Clear, honest, customer service.
24/7/365 Freephone technical support.
Their forums are manned by Be staff.

Theyre cheap and bargainlicious to boot!

I have no hesitation in recommending them.

If you want to go with them, let me know before you do, and I can 'refer' you, and I think we both get a free month;)

Bear in mind you probably wont get the full 24 meg. That's only for exceptional quality phone lines. It depends how far you are from the exchange (phone line distance, not necessarily as the crow flies), and the quality of your phone line from exchange to house.

I only got 8 meg because Im so far away, my friend down the road gets 14. Horses for courses I suppose.

While we’d love everyone to enjoy our superfast broadband, unfortunately you’re just too far away from your nearest BT telephone exchange for us to provide you with our service. We’re really sorry.

If you move closer to a BT exchange in future, simply provide us with your new postcode and telephone number to find out if you can enjoy the power of Be.

Looks like I'm moving then!

Bloody village :D

Many thanks Marcel for your feedback.

I checked and BE is readily available in my post code area.

Is there a way I can figure out how far I may be living from a BE exchange and how many MBs of speed will I be getting if I subscribe to BE?

I am already upto 8MB with my existing ISP provider which is £14.99 per month unlimited with no contract and hence point in switching if no considerable advantage gained.

I'm pretty sure Be have recently been acquired by O2, and so their hitherto excellent customer service may take a hit if O2 start price-cutting Be services like Orange, Talk talk and Sky have done with theirs.

Be got bought out at the beginning of the year. As far as I am aware they are keeping the Be brand separate, and if anything, Be has gotten better since....

For line length, you can check using Samknows, but this only gives the indication as the crow flies.

If you want to give Be a ring, they have access to the BT database, and can check for you.

That's good news. It was the recent price drops that made me wonder if we were seeing the start of a new business model coming in.

BTW, I'm strongly considering a change to Be meself - will let you know if I do, Marcel, so we can both benefit. It's an ADSL2+ service, as I recall - out of interest, what modem/router hardware do you use with it?

Im using the free supplied "BeBox" (Which is a Speedtouch 780 with the Be Firmware / Profiles on it)

PS another good point is that their customer service team know what theyre talking about usually too. It's not an Indian call centre, it's in Bulgaria, so its hit and miss whether you get one with superb English, but theyre good enough anyway.

You can put an online ticket in, and get it answered the same day, no problem.
How many other ISP's could you say this to :

"Hi, could you drop my SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio on the connection)profile to 3.5dB, and change my connection type to Fastpath, I would like to see if it gives me a better speed"

"Dear Mr Booth, that has now been done, thankyou"

With first line support? I'd be lucky to get Pipex, Nildram, or BT to actually know what an SNR profile is...lol

Also, WRT the above online distance checker (and others), ignore the estimated speeds they say, as they'll be ADSLMax only (up to 8mb), Be* is ADSL2+ so you need to go to them for a proper estimation of speed.

Hmm. I asked them a question last week and I'm still waiting for a reply. Have resubmitted but maybe someone here can answer ... Will my BT connection remain active during the 1-3 weeks it takes to switch to Be?

I didn't know about the recommend a friend deal either - will be back in here if I decide to go with them.

Yes it will. There's only a short period of downtime when they do the switchover IIRC. IE same day.

RUBBISH...

I'm getting almost 8 meg here now..

Unfortunately Be is not available in your area yet.

I'm not moving to Engerland just for 24mb BB - no way!!!

^^ They must not like those that live in yorkshire . got the same at home and work. Work is about 2 feet (ish) from the exchange!

Isn't the non-availability due to Be being ADSL2+ and LLU, rather than on distance alone? Not all exchanges are ready yet - Woking was only enabled in August this year, for example.

I think you get a different error message if your exchange isnt LLU'd.

I think Tim's problem might be the fact that (IIRC) ADSL2 has different criteria, so where he fits the bill for ADSL, Be's requirements mean he's too far.

If you sign up via Quidco ,BE will rebate you £55 and iirc you can still use Marcel as a referral. Sorry Marcel if incorrect.
