Ok, So I am led in bed after hurting my ankle last weekend. It forced me to take monday off my real job as sick. Anyway the mobile rings and its the BBC wondering if I could shoot this weekends Ashton Court festival which is a big deal in the South West - consider it a mini glastonbury if you will.

The brief was plenty of ambience, lots of people, the bands and to just capture the vibe of the two days. So I checked in yersterday, collected my press pass and car pass and set out to shoot for the day.

Shot nigh on 1500 jpegs yesterday, in fine @ ISO 100 as instructed and another few hundred today. split the work between the 24 - 70L and the 100 - 400L. Was not convinced by the 24 - 70 but now I am like 'holy lenses batman - what a lens'

A delay in rendevousing with the beeb yesterday hence the delay in the pictures making it online but they have started to appear now and can be seen here

Roll the mouse over them to reveal my name - Pete ;)

Major resize going on, so compression evident but hey big deal.

My overall experience was great. Wearing that press pass is a licence to take pics that you normally would not attempt. Lots of attention from girls and guys, with the usual lament of 'take my picture!'...Some good some bad and some positively smashed people in the warmth of the sun. Handed over to Gary about 5 tonight as my ankle is giving too much gip but had a blast thats for sure.

One thing to note, which I was not aware of before is that the bbc reject pictures of people with logos, cigarettes, some alchohol and are very careful about children shots being used. However, they accepted 60 odd shots which should filter through and were very happy with the results that matched the brief.

The feedback from Gary the 30 year pro that I have been working with is that my eye is good, reminds me of him and that I see alternative things rather than the usual stuff which is what my style has always been about. Gave me sound advice on backgrounds as he said there were two or three killer shots spoiled by people pulling faces or throwing shapes behind the subject. I asked him where to go on this and he said simply wait. Experience dictates that the person behind will get pretty bored and then you get your shot.

I will post some shots in the sharing thread as and when :)

Thanks for reading and thanks for all your support when I was low the other week. Doing ok at the moment but thats the inherent nature of depression.

Pete.
