Firstly, i am terrible at trying to explain things, i get confused quite easily & i see things in a different light to the average human.

I have a Tamron AF 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC, i bought a 72mm bayonet hood from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AACA788. It does not fit onto my Tamron lens, i thought bayonet fittings were all the same. Could someone please enlighten me.

Thankyou

(If i have potsed this in the wrong section my apologies)

I'll try to make it simple:

1, make sure it is compatible
2, maybe it is but a filter may interfere

You have 14 days to return or exchange it by that supplier.

No filter, I took it off.
So are you saying that boyonet fittings vary, that they are not universal.

Cannot send it back if have bought the wrong item when they specifically state what lens it is meant for, was only £2.70, i can survive loosing it.

For sure not…
screw types share the same thread, only the size will change
but bayonets are not created all equal!

Most hoods are proprietary ime. i.e. one brands hood rarely fits another brands lenses. The hood you linked to is for a Canon lens, most likely the lug alignment will be different. You need one specifically for that lens.

Ok, understood. Thankyou both.
If anyone has the time would they mind finding me an appropiate hood for my lens, as i stated i do get confused quite easily, am also quite poor now which is why i chose a cheapy hood.

Once on the site of your supplier, just enter your search. Simple.

just my 2p and could be WAY off base

i recently bought a hood for my Nikon lens and found the 'petal shape' would not allow my fingers access to rotate a PL-C filter

i now use a screw-in type hood which then allows me to turn the hood to adjust the PL-C

cheap on eBay too.......:)

edit - you have to make sure it wont vignette at 18mm though....:(

The lens is the non PZD version, i now know what i need. It's gonna have to wait, forgot my yearly phone line rental (£124) is due next month & i am on JSA, i need to save.
I have lost two hoods, the canon one i got with the camera & the tamron one i got with the lens, also lost both original caps. I have a screw on hood & i do not like it, too much faff on taking it on & off.

Thankyou all.

I can't help thinking that a hood that is wide enough not to vignette at 18mm isn't going to be very effective at 270mm.
Indeed. Not very effective at preventing unwanted light entering the lens. But still just as effective at providing some protection from unwanted impacts.

also lost both original caps............................Thankyou all.

I have a 72mm lens cap you can have for free
just sent me your name/address by PM [private Message]

it is from a Sigma lens - but so what....:):
