Hi All,

I have been researching options for portable flash solution, read pretty much read every thread on here regarding elinchrom quadra v lencarta safari, yet still undecided leaning towards the Elinchrom solution at the moment but looking for honest feedback from both system users. The system will predominately used at weddings and portraits along with band promotional stuff. Portability it the key but the few areas looking for clarification on are as follows

Will both systems near as dam it have the ability to over power the sun? Or at least enable me to bring in those moody sky we have in Wales!

Will both systems be able to freeze action not talking about sports stars or anything but just if a groom and best man decided to jump in the air, or the band decided to throw the instruments into the air the will be frozen.

1 or 2 head systems? I will probably be use 1 for the most part but would probably be useful to have the additional head but would probably need to buy extension cable to allow for positioning of the head where I would want to. However Might just use the speedlight that are my current portable solution for everything else and save money with just the one light kit

Cheers for your replies in advance

Quadras with A heads would be best for freezing action. Can't remember what the t1 times are on the Safari, but it was a lot lower than the Quadras IIRC

Yes, the Quadra with A heads has a much shorter flash duration, although at less than half the power, than the Safari Li-on.

But it's irrelevant if shooting in bright daylight, because daylight coming through the shutter for 1/250th sec or so will blur the action.

In other words, you might be better making a decision on other factors - power, performance, recycling time, battery life, value for money - or whatever else is important to you.

The requirement for both high output to overcome bright sun, and short flash duration, are at odds. Maybe Elinchrom Quadra with both A-heads (short duration) and S-heads (about half a stop brighter) might be one solution.

Or Lencarta Li-on with a tail hypersync trigger for the high speed stuff - eg Lencarta Mach, or something similar. See this thread and the link in post #4 http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=5769318#post5769318

There is no perfect solution (maybe Profoto comes closest, though costly) but lots of quite different options, depending on budget, individual needs, and how much faffing around you're prepared to do.

New Lencarta Atom is another option, though I've not tried one.
