I’ve recently bought a set of reasonably cheap 250w studio flash lights that obviously run off the mains when used indoors. What I’d love to be able to do though is use them outdoors with them running off battery power in the same way a Lencarta Safari kit works.

Are there any existing battery packs available from Bowens, Lencarta etc where I could just swap the lead over to fit in to my flash unit which uses the same kind of lead as you’d get with a radio or sky box etc.

...but you might not like the prices.

Although these things are basically a simple battery with a pure sine-wave converter attached, cheap DIY solutions are not so easy, and are never neat or convenient. Studio flash units tend to be sensitive animals and, unless you have a fair amount of specialist knowledge to get exactly the right bits, you run the risk of things not working properly or even going up in smoke :(
