Battery packs for Nikon SB910 flashgun

I am thinking of getting an SD9, which is the Nikon battery pack but for about a quarter of the price I can get a copy. I have heard that the real thing improves recharging times a lot, and that some copies do not.
First of all, how can this work, as all they are is a plastic aa battery holder and does anyone have any experience of such things.
I understand the potential risk of overheating and just want to get the fastest recharge time for 3-6 shots or so.

I bought a couple of these for my SB 800s. Not the Nikon one though.
I got mine from Ebay.
Just like this one:

It makes the recyle time almost instantaneous, and lasts all day, no problem.
I use decent rechargeable batteries in mine.
I think I paid £30 each for my packs.

and can say that it arrived very quickly, seems very well built and so far seems to do all it is meant to do.
For the money it is a no-brainer over the Nikon version.

Glad you got sorted.
Mine are brilliant. I've used mine as OCF, in a lightbox on a stand, powered by the external packs, and they go on forever.
Excellent bit of kit.
