I've come accross a battery grip for my E-420 on fleabay, but I'm a bit unsure. Olympus do not, to the best of my knowlege, produce a grip for the E-420,m but the one on ebay is saying it'll work fully, and even features a shutter release on it. My problem is surely if Oly never produced a grip, then there'd be no interface for a shutter release etc.

The product is here and any advice will be useful.

I looked at that myself but was unsure if it was a sound purchase because as you say Olympus have never produced an official one?!?

As for the shutter release, I suppose if there is no interface (and I don't know if there is) the button on the grip could use a hard wire to the remote release on the camera? or maybe use the IR?

As an aside (and not wanting to hijack your thread) what do you think of the other kit you have for the Oly? I got mine recently and was considering the Sigma 55-200 as my next purchase?

Now I'm used to the 55-200 it's a cracking lens. It's very easy to get a soft shot though, but that might just be me! For the money (still sub £100) I can't recommend it highly enough. The FL36R was a tad sisappointing and I wish I'd gone for the FL50R instead, but live and learn and all that. The FL50R is a hell of a price jump from the 36 too, at nearly a £300 increase.

Another look at the battery grip shows there is a small cable that plugs into the remote socket. I think I'll walk on for the minute, as I'm looking at buying a new body and putting the 420 as a backup anyway.

Re that seller, he's not in the UK, he's in Poland - I bought something off him a couple of years back because I thought he was local and so it would be here quickly, it took 2 weeks and the package had Polish stamps on it, so it looks as if he's either dropshipping or fibbing....

Definately steering clear then...I don't buy from outside the UK and if I suspect they're fibbing then I email for confirmation. That way when it takes 3 weeks to arrive and is covered in foreign stamps I have a reason to leave neg feedback etc.

Made my mind up, I'm relagating the 420 to a back up as soon as I have the money to upgrade :D
