My camcorder takes a 7.2v - 2500maH batteries as well as a smaller on that comes with the camcorder

Just bought a new 2500mah battery and the camcorder playback time is 5h 28m. The ones I already have play back times are 4h 15m and 4h 35m

Ok different manufactures but surely built to the same specifications. Only thing I can think of is either age of existing batteries or never fully discharged and recharged , but from new never reachs the 5 hr mark in play back time.
maybe a member can enlighten me the reason why the difference?

Depending on the manufacturer, battery ratings aren't always exact. There's a fair chance that your other battery isn't actually 2500mah.

May well be, I can only go by the label and he sellers advert.. The new one is also a bit smaller on the left. Just noticed the one on the right is marked at 7.4v so possibly you have found the answer= mis labelled. Thank you

Lithium Ion batteries lose capacity with age and recharge cycles so that would explain it

The 2 batteries on the right carry the CE mark that denotes conformity to a European standard but the one on the left has the extremely (surely not designed to be confusing...) similar marking that means it's a Chinese Export. Have a Google for CE markings to discover the difference.

Thank you all for your replies.

The one on the left I got off Amazon

Brian
that was my first thought about age loss, but they never got anywere near 5hr mark and have always been what I mentioned in my first post query

i did have one that must have been either a fake or of poor quality, it did loose power quickly and hard to charge up so I ditched it, or should say disposed of it in the proper manner
