I notice that on 3rd party battery charges the output voltage is rated at around 8.4v, and yet camera batteries are rated at around 7.4 volts. is there any reason for the difference and does it have any inverse affect on the batteries being charged?

is there any reason for the difference
The difference in voltage is in relation with the inner resistance of the
electro-chimical compound. Different compound have different resistance.
does it have any inverse affect on the batteries being charged?
Empirically yes as the current has to be "forced" in but this is normal, and
accounted for, in the declared life expectancy of the cell.

charging voltage is always more than the output of the cell to pop it in :-)

cars are same 12v batteries are usually charged at 14volts

Thanks all , yes cars have around 14 volt chargers for a 12 volt battery as you say Paul, I never had given that a thought. Thank you all for replies
