Hi all

I am still looking for a scanner to replace my Plustek. I'd like it to be able to scan a whole roll automatically, rather than one frame at a time.

The Reflecta RPS 7200 looks great - no fiddly film holder, just feed it in and let it get on with it. Is there anything similar (maximun budget £500) that'll do this? I was tempted with the Epson V700 for a while as it can scan a whole roll in one (but you have to cut it up and place in a holder first) but I don't think it's as good as a dedicated 35mm machine.

I'll be scanning B+W film mainly, so not bothered by things like Digital ICE, and also will be using Vuescan so again not interested in bundled software. It'll be used on an iMac (2013) so must be compatible!

Any recommendations gratefully received

Cheers

Sadly worthwhile Nikon options looking at completed listings are likely to be twice the budget that ped has suggested.

The best quality option at your budget would be a secondhand drum scanner but you would be lucky to get a version of Mac silverfast at that price included.

Thanks chaps.

The V700 really ticks all the boxes, from price to the fact that it scans everything in one shot. I keep reading that the quality isn't as good as others, but when I look at images on Flickr tagged with V700 they all look superb.

tbh I'm tempted to try one...

A Pakon would fit your needs perfectly.. I got one a while ago, scans a full roll is less than 10 mins. Only prob is, it only runs on Windows XP and only scans 3000x2000 files, which depending on what your intention is might not be a problem - I don't need larger scans than that really. It scans beautifully though, check out the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PakonF135/

Bought mine from AAA Imaging in America and it arrived about 2-3 days after paying. They're $250 + ~$85 P&P. Works out at about £200 + import VAT if you get stung on it.

That looks interesting! Never heard of them. How did you overcome the voltage difference?
