Hi all

Well i snapped my 4th E string of this year on my bass and its quite anoying! whats even more annoying i have to come up with a music composition for my GCSE music and im doing a rock song so im ment to be using my bass. I dont have a spare E string, cos ive snapped all of them. But i do have B string suited to a 5 string bass and i have it as the shop did no have any 4 string packs and i really needed some new strings... anyway, would i break my bass neck sticking a B on it ? (or would the neck break if i stuck an E on it and it had got used to the b lol)

If you can help out it would be great

Thanks

Dave

I don't play bass, play acoustic, I had a similar issue and managed to knock the corner off the spacer at the top(Can never remember what it's called :bang:) by using the wrong string so be carefull. (Araldite fixed it!!)

The B is not going to be great if you tune it up to an E.

You may get away without causing any movement or damage, it all depends on the strength of the neck/body. It will feel pretty awful though as the you'd end up with 3 stings with equal(ish) tension and one that's tight as a drum.

The idea is i use the B string but tune it to B, i wouldnt want a 135 gague E lol :)

Ahhhh, then go for it if that's OK for you. Not a bad set up for that little bit of extra reach down low.

The low B will work fne but you may have to raise the action if it's low to avoid fret buzz.

I've got a spare E 110 gauge flatwound I can pop in the post to you. I may have a spare set of roundwounds somewhere.
PM me if your interested.
