Yes
Literally the only thing I want to do is crop the video, shorten it from about 2 minutes to about 30 seconds.

I usually use photoshop, but for some reason photoshop won't edit videos from my camera, only videos from my phone, despite them both being 3gp files, I think it may be somrthing to do with the size of the file.

Oh and the files are too big to upload to photobucket etc. and do it on there.

So I need a very basic free download of video editing software, so i can shorten some video clips to add to my specialist project.

Can't help with free... but can comment that Ulead Video Studio is superb (I use it for HD edits) it's a bit feature rich for what you are looking for, but at about £50 (or half that on Ebay) it is a cracking bit of software.

I really can't warrant paying that, I only need it to shorten my videos for my project

cant you do it on windows movie maker which should come free i think if you use windows:shrug:

Google will usualy throw up a few free options for most odd software needs. If there's nothing about that serves the purpose, perhaps something on the free trial from adobe???

If you use windows then use windows movie maker, if you use a mac, then use imovie, they are both very basic and easy to use free programs.
However, for playing 3gp you may need either a codec or a converter (many free options, just google it)
Try this free converter, it was the first thing that came up in google. :)

Our video guy swears by Pinnacle Studio, I don't know the price but it's supposed to be really good.
The only free one I know is windows movie maker. Wayne

window movie maker will get the job done and it is easy to use - but basic

windows movie maker wouldn't work.

I've downloaded "Videopad video editor" which is excellent and was free, it has loads of extras too including a file converter and a vhs to dvd converter.
