Yes
have a new good-quality 72mm Circular PL filter

it will fit my Canon FDn 35-105mm

understand it could benefit colour film 'landscapes'

BUT on B&W film, is it better to use Orange or Red for landscapes [ i have both]

yes a test roll is an option, but why pay for film/developing when we have experts here,,?...:D

Just the same as with digital - the polariser has a couple of effects - one being the darkening the sky trick, the other being managing glare and reflections. So - it's great for shooting if there's water in the frame - you can control the level of "sparklies" from the sun on the water if it's rough, or use the polariser to control if/by how much you can "see down into the water". It's also surprising what a difference it can make on the tone that trees etc are rendered at - some leaves are very dark and shiney and work a little like a mirror - reflecting lots of light in all directions and looking brigher "en mass" than they actually are - a polariser can tame some of this as well, allowing you to darken a tree-line.

And with all ^^^ this faffing around, can you see why it sometimes takes me over a hour to get a single frame fired

:D

do you have a search engine that auto-flags any post mentioning ''Canon FDn 35-105mm''...............

thanks for the info .... will keep it then

 No I don't John - I DO have the F&C forum on subscribe though - so if anything is posted in there, I can keep an eye on it... Don't want to miss out on anything interesting happening in here, while fire-fighting in the classifieds (which seems to be 90% of the mod teams job :( )

Like all things depends on what you want to do.

Orange filters will add more contrast if you are shooting something with stone in it, like old builds, rocks in theladscape etc it will also darken the sky a little and make the clouds stand out.

Red is good for making blue skys dark also as it is oppostie to green in the spectrum I think it will darked grass areas and again add contrast. I believe you can use it for portaits making the skin have a more 'blemish' free look to it or lighting spots etc.

You could also try a deep red filter and a poloriser set to it maximum which can almost turn a bight sunny day into midnight. :)
