Basic info required on how to use Manual Flash.

Please can anyone help me. I have a Panasonic GF1 and a Nissin Di466 flashgun designed for 4/3. I've got it working fine in TTL mode when on camera.
I have set it up wirelessly off camera in Slave mode and from what I can understand from the manual when in Slave mode settings need to be made manually.

I have done the necessary sums GN = f stop x flash distance from subject in metres, when ISO set at 100.

Nissin give a guide Number table but I just can't seem to get the exposure right. Can anyone give me some tips please on how to use manual mode as I'm struggling to get it right?:thinking:
 
When you say you can't get the exposure right, what way? Under, over? Have you just tried adjusting the flash power, ignoring the GN? What camera settings are you using?

Thanks Cliff. I think I was just trying to get too technical. I tried what you said and set camera in full manual. Set speed to 1/160 sec, Aperture to f11, iso 100, flash power 1/2 and just pressed the button. It worked out fine.
