A friend visited today with his PS3 and I decided to try and grab some screenshots. It seemed OK at first, but it wasn't long before I started noticing quite obvious banding, almost like concentric circles, in bright areas. I could see the effect in the viewfinder. Does anyone know what this might be? It might not be significant, but his is an imported US player and I think he disconnected it from his projector to bring it over. Could it be an NTSC type issue, or a setting buried in a menu somewhere that needed changing?

is that a photo of the screen? or an actual screen grab? because it just looks like the bands you get when photographing a screen to me.
 
Yes, it's a photo of my TV. I've taken shots of it before and not noticed anything unpleasant like that. E.g.

I'm getting the sense that this banding is 'normal' then?
