A am getting a gorillapod to strap to the bottom of my camera bag so if I need it then it is there but don't want to be carrying a full tripod around.

I also want a call head for it but have not heard great reviews about the official joby one so would like some advice on what to go for! Max weight would be my canon 40D with a sigma 70-200 f2.8, budget £50-60

Recommendations please :-)

Thanks

John

The Redsnapper RSH-12 is rated at 10kg and is £59.99 (-10% for TP members), I have one and it's very good quality. If it's too heavy they also do the RSH-61, I use one on my Gitzo Traveller and it takes a gripped 7D with a 24-105L easily, it's excellent value at £29.99.

Which official one are you looking at? I have the ball head x and it's very good IMO, seems to be well reviewed too.

Grum

Just had a look at the ball head x and that looks ok, was a while since I looked at the joby ones and this didn't exist ( or I missed it) looks much more substantial than the basic one.

Cheers.

After buying a Gorillapod to carry around Central America with me instead of a tripod, I'm not that convinced by them.

I'll keep it as there are a few times it proved useful, but they certainly aren't a tripod replacement.

I to lost faith in a G'pod, never replace a tripod.

In what way did you lose faith? The only problem with the Gorillapod Focus I have is that you can only get low angles unless you put it on something. It's fine with my 5D and L lenses. I have used some of the cheaper versions and they weren't too sturdy though.
