Just wondering who can help. Ive recently been bitten by the photography bug but havent realy got a clue!! I went out today to take some pics of german fortifications and the beach but the weather today has been realy foggy damp and grey. I was thinking this could make quite a dramatic skyline behind the fortifications. This isnt the case, its just dark, grey and looks rubbish. . . .any ideas?x:shrug:

Edit the photo in picassa or lightroom to improve the colours of your skyline.

Those are normally really tricky conditions to get good shots from. To your eye it sometimes looks atmopsheric and cool, you take a shot, look at it and think "that just looks crap" - I have done it a million times :( Sometimes with a lot of processing, like dodging and burning in photoshop (or similar) to try and bring out details and lessen the greyness, you can get the shot looking amazing, but sometimes it just ends up as a learning experience :(

Hi Jen, if you're up for being out in all sorts then go and shoot. You never know when you might get a shot that couldn't happen at any other time.

A long time back I was on a snapping trip and a bunch of us agreed (at the bar about 3am) that we'd meet up again for dawn and go spend some film. Well as we gathered in the car park the mist was rolling in and all but me went back to bed.

I got one of my fave shots of all time that morning and from that I've learnt, it only becomes a lost cause when you don't bother.

I wish I had a better scan of it but here ya go....

Jenny, put some examples up and it'll get more constructive comments back, both for taking the shots and post processing.

Hi thanks for the help. Ive got a version of gimp as my processing program at the mo and am having real probs using it! Dazzajl, that pic looks amazing I love it despite how drunk u may have been! I will post these pics in a bit and see what people may suggest. Thanks again

I've got the same setup as you: 400d and no photoshop, I use Gimp too but only if I've got something serious to do, 99% of image processing I do with DPP (Digital Photo Professional) one of the software applications that came free on the disk from canon in the 400d box, very easy.
