Bad News If You Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Yup not good. I've seen many anew image of an exploded Samsung pop by on Facebook. I wonder what went wrong in the manufacturing with those phones that are affected.

I don't think my pockets are big enough for this, it would definitely be a two hand job to use it for me.

i always also find it a bit odd how many people keep there explovive phones in there pockets next to there private parts and asses given all these batery issues

But how many people charge their phones while they're in their pockets???

Actually I do :) With a battery pack attached. Remember it is Android it is required.

The problem is also about litium batteries leaking and siting on them and bending them in pockets has also been known to cause issues.

Samsung issued a statement today telling all owners to power the phone down and not to use it at all.

Samsung Galaxy Note7 – Update, 10 September

Until a replacement device is provided, Samsung asks all customers with a Galaxy Note7 smartphone to power down your device and return it to its place of purchase at your earliest opportunity.

Various airlines have banner them as well. Shame that happened.

Flew with Monarch today and the Galaxy Note 7 was specifically mentioned. This phone Must be turned off completely and not turned on at all until you were inside the terminal building.

I wonder whether they would really recognise one ;)

Pretty bad marketing though isn't it ;)

Another incident of an exploding Galaxy Note 7, with injuries to a child this time.

Galaxy Note 7 explodes in New York, injures 6-year-old boy

A 6-year-old Brooklyn boy was watching videos on a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Saturday evening when it burst into flames as he was holding it. The young boy's grandmother, Linda Lewis, told the New York Post that the resulting fire was enough to set off alarms in her house, and her grandson was taken to Downstate Medical Center to treat burns on his body but was later released.

Not good, why on earth aren't these things tested properly before they become available

Whilst very sad it happened, Samsung did come out a few weeks back that this was an issue. Perhaps the air time providers should have been more active as well to support their customers and do a very active recall as not everyone will be following the news.

Even a full recall can escape some people, without some form of compulsory registration (that uses verified details for the customer) of buyers so they could be personally written to means many people will not see the notice of recall. There's a lot of people who don't watch the news, as you mention, (and it hasn't been all that prominently covered on the TV news) or read the tech sites/news sites on the net.

Perhaps Samsung should be forced to take out full page newspaper adverts for the warning and billboards (but even that probably wouldn't reach 100% of owners).

Every device registered with Android/Google Play will state the make/model. Wouldn't it be more useful for Samsung to work with Google and issue a direct message to all of these devices stating the recall process? While some devices may not be registered, I wouldn't think it would be many for what is a brand new model.

@Dave1 @stevelmx5 Good suggestions - Unfortunately I think it is a bit of a learning exercise on all possible avenues to be taken. I don't recall a phone recall on this scale where it explodes in users hands, banned from airlines etc. I'd hate to be the product manager for the Note 7 ;) But then again these kind of event are unfortunately also part of launching a product, one can't just plan for the happy path scenarios.

True, I suspect the Note 7 is going to be a short lived product and that a Note 8 (that will look a lot like a Note 7 and have very similar specs ;)) will be announced a lot sooner than expected.

hehehe :) With a different product manager
