We hired one of those when we went to Ireland last May..... Marianne refuses, quite adamantly that she'll never go in one again.... it made her so ...... :puke:

Gotta admit - I couldn't believe how bad it was, and I was driving... (pass the bag --- the memory is too vivid)!

The new ones are dreadful. I have had 4 Toyota Yaris's (if that's the plural for Yaris :shrug:) and think they are fab little cars. I now have a 51 reg Yaris T-Sport which is quite nippy as it's a 1.5L compared to the normal 1L. However, I took it in to be serviced a few weeks ago and got a brand new Yaris for the day. It's the worst car I've ever driven. Plasticky, awful thing it was, with light coloured A pillars that distract you.
My T Sport has to go into the dealership next week and I've said I'll sit and wait for it as I can't bear the thought of having to drive around in plastic box again.
 
Sorry to hear about the bang m8 :( thats a nasty start to the year. But thank your stars your OK, cars can be fixed, people aren't always so lucky.

I'd be a bit worried now though........the insurance will stick you in a kia picanto hire car for a month and then you'll lose the will to drive and resort to public transport!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed you're not with Direct Line, who "lost" my girlfriend's cheque on two occasions when someone drove in to her and wrote her car off. It was only when I phoned up, nearly reduced the call centre monkey to tears, and turned the air blue with his manager that we eventually started getting results.

It was a funny old accident that she had, the other driver turned across her path and so they collided. At the scene, he complained of neck pains (despite being in a Ford Focus vs my gf's Fiat Seicento) and so the fire crew cut the roof of his car to get him out. After that, he claimed that she ran a red light and it was her fault! In the end it all dragged on for ages, with police statements, a lot of scraping to try and find the money to get Sarah back on the road again, and direct line were useless in doing anything to help her.

In the end, I went on Google Earth, got an image of the junction, and put together 10 pages of pictures, words, and diagrams to illustrate what happened. In the end, it paid off because Sarah got full compensation for it, and was found totally not at fault, and the other driver was given points and sent on a driving course! Hope that'll teach him - lying never pays off.

However, I think everything's a lot more clear cut with you - at least the other party is admitting to be at fault, even though they've lied about which member of the family was behind the wheel. Luckily for you, I think they'll come off a lot worse.

Regarding the Yaris, the older ones I've driven have all been great - shame the new ones are poo. The Aygo was good fun when I had a blast round in that.
I feel your pain though, I've gone from an Audi A3 2.0T to a clapped out 1.6 Astra Estate for the last week while mine's in for repairs. :bang:

Sounds like maybe the guy is a professional con where they stage the accident and claim for personal injury.

Sorry to hear about your accident and to see that state of your poor car! Hope your neck is feeling a bit better now. I'm markp's girlfriend, and as he said a couple of posts ago i had an accident where my car was written off with the other driver blaming me. it was so much the accident that caused me the problems but the other driver and insurance company. I ended up being cautioned by the police and being told to go to the police station becuase he said id run a red light. Anyway i thought my car would be ok but it wasnt. here's a pic of mine (you cant see much as it was taken at the scrap yard after they moved it without my permission!)
doesnt look too bad but apparently it was all mechanical damage not so much cosmetic

Sorry to read your story Sarah (I guess your name is Sarah?). Sounds like you had a real nightmare. It's just wrong when someone who is completely free of any blame in this situation end up being so badly inconvenienced! I really feel for you. Glad it turned out ok in the end.
