My wife and I are intending on going backpacking around Asia for around 6 months, I am going to bring some of my camera kit along for the journey.

I am currently searching for something which I am not sure exists at the moment. I have a Kathmandu Gluon pack that I use for my regular holidays. This is great as I can pack my main pack with all my clothes etc and my 'day pack' attaches itself to the back and the front of the pack. This is useful for a number of reasons:
1. When I have something valuable in it I can mount it on the front so I know no-one is trying to steal from it.
2. I can balance myself front with front and back packs when walking
3. I can mount the day pack on the back as extra storage if the pack is to go on the hold of a plane, or bus. Or if its relatively empty.

I would like a similar system but where there is a day pack with a Lowepro Fastpack type set up to carry the following kit:
- Canon 6D
- 430ex
- 24-105 f4
- 40 f2.8
- fisheye
- filters, charger, batteries, etc
- laptop

Does anyone know of any backpack that is able to do the above?

We did a 5 month trip to India, 20+ years ago & carried small hand luggage each (with important stuff in) & a LARGE backpack each.

Before we travelled we bought some strong, heavy duty material & had made 2 large duffel type bags with metal eyelets around the top. We also took a couple of dozen large cable-ties with us which we painted 2 colours of nail varnish on so at least we'd know if they'd been tampered with/changed.

When not actually carrying our backpacks eg boarding a plane, we put them in the duffel/kit bag & secured with large cable-ties.

For security sake, I would carry a small pack with my camera gear/important documents/medication etc completely separately. What about something like a slingshot (lowepro 302 type) that you can carry in front of you for security and convenience?

Whatever you do, DON'T let your bags out of your sight for a second!

We boarded a train in India & watched an older couple put one of their bags on the train seat next to the window & by the time he'd reached round to pick up a second bag........the first had gone. :wideyed:
