Heya,

I've bought a 6x9 vinyl roll for use as a background, its come mounted on an aluminium tube.

I'd like to be able to use 2 spare light stands I have to support the roll, can anyone suggest how to do this, what bits I could pop ontop of the stands to attach the roll?

Thanks!

i think you might be able to get a support rod from ebay that simply attaches on two light stands. alternatively do it DIY style and get a metal rod from wickes or b&Q etc and then drill two holes; one each end.

so you've already got an aluminium tube... could drill two holes in it that are the right sizes to sit on the spigots, or get 2 manfrotto superclamps and just attach them to the top of some (sturdy) light stands.

I use the manfrotto telescopic background pole with my vinyl, and two of the pretty heavy duty calumet light stands.

Personally I would be very wary of supporting the weight of a vinyl backdrop on lighting stands...

Ladder brackets work well, and are cheap.

aye, yes, you CANNOT cheap out on the stands to hold it. Mine retail at £70 each, and they're calumet branded - meaning that they're really £120ish manfrotto stands.

you definitely cannot use the £11 7dayshop or manfrotto nano stands for this!

The tube its on doesnt come far enough out of the roll to gimme any drilling room.

Looking at the advice given I shall be giving calumet a visit

I use the Calumet heavy duty support for my vinyl... I wouldn't consider anything less sturdy if I were you. As it is when on full height I wouldn't want it any less stable than it is, I normally only have it extended to about 6ft high though as my subjects are generally under the age of 10
