Does anyone know where I can source a background stand like shown in the link below in the UK? Looking for something simple for use when photographing newborns but don't want the bulk of the typical 2 stands for background support. This is ideal but struggling to find anything similar in the uk.

Well, that's interesting :)
It's actually a cheap boom arm, not a background support.
I have the same one I use for location food photography, to boom a large softbox above the table. The only thing not shown in their image is the counter weight that screws into the boom. It would be shown on the right side of their image as you look at it.
This one would do the same

Thanks Michael, thats really helpful, i knew the answer would be quite simple!! With the boom arm kit you posted can that be centred in the middle with the clamps that come with it (if that makes sense?). I do already have several light stands so this would be perfect.

The large circular clamp would be your central point, so you may find the locking points on the arm dictate how wide, insofar as they likely won't go through the main clamp.
However :) ..............
You could buy the circular clamp on its own for about £12, and then purchase some aluminium tube the width of your backdrop, and that would be pretty much it.
I think that would actually be your cheapegst option, and also meet your needs exactly. :D

Thanks again Michael, I had a similar thought running through my head. I'm sure if I hunt through my dads magical garage I'll find something suitable!! I'm off to make an ebay purchase now.
