When choosing a back drop what's the best material for a nice white and black background with zero creases and for full body shots?

I have found a kit on eBay for £85 which is the stand and two drops made from non woven material. Is this any good or is muslin or vinyl better?

Any links to kits or site are much appreciated.

Does anyone do a pop up background with train?

I want something seemless but also with minimal or no creases.

If you want zero creases then Paper is the only way to go really but black paper can be really reflective. Vinyl is a great option but is not very portable due to weight.

I use Muslin and find it fine with a little spray of water after it's been hung.

Is that collapsible backdrop with train any good or is it worth getting a proper stand with a muslin drop?

I have a pop-up background with train from Karlu Photographic. Its white one side & black on the other and comes with 2 matching cloth trains - magic ! About £120 i think. You'll also need a heavy duty light stand with a clamp for keeping it in position.

Is the popup background good? Do you get good results from it?

I have the photosel one with the train attachment also just arrived today! I'll be giving it a good test on Sunday so I'll let you know how it gets on!

i have a vinyl one.. very good imo! and if it does get creased..just heat it up with a hairdryer a tad, and they come out! :)

Quick update as promised - really enjoying the photosel collapsable background nice and easy to use and very effective, I recommend it

Good news.. How do you hold it up? I've something similar and have tried just leaning it.

For now because I'm just using it in a spare bedroom it leans up against the wall just fine - its really not wobbly at all where it is as its pretty rigid. There is a handy loop at the top that you can either use a nail or some sort of lighting stand to if you wanted to though!

Just wondering if you have taken any snaps using the backdrop, if so can I see some. Im waiting for mine now!!

Depends what you mean by "good". It's quick to put up and fold away (after a bit of practice). The quality also seems good for the price. I haven't used it for full body shots, just head & shoulders so far but I'm quite happy with it.

For pure portability you can't really go wrong but the Lastolite Hi-lite would aslo be worth looking into albeit for quite a few quid more.

Hope that helps.

Sounds very similar to the one I bought second hand on here. I'm thinking of using a lighting stand to just help support it, but wondered if there was a special clamp?

works well for me. Two cheap manual flashguns lighting the background with a speedlight in an apollo softbox to the front.

Heres one from earlier taken with the background and one smartflash with soft box, really do recommend the background for the price though if I had the space id of moved forward a little to get the background more out of focus as you can see some creasing top right - though I'm totally new to studio photography!!

Just received my photosel backdrop very impressed, although need help with folding it down lol I had to call in the other half to fold it up my arms aren't long enough!

Any tips on getting out the creases and keeping them out? Can I iron it?

I was thinking along same lines with creases at first but I have found I can get a perfect black if I stand model far enough away anyway and perfect white using a light aimed at the background itself - I know it's not what you asked but hope it helps!

Over the years I have found the best backdrops are available in any good material shop, curtain linings, blackout etc simply roll up after.
