Hi guys,
While I am trying to condense my growing shopping list, I feel that in order for me to actually want to get my studio lights out, I need myself a proper backdrop.

Id like to start with just plain white and black, (Im not really interested in couloured, two tones, & patterned muslins right now)
I have limited space (my room is 10'x11') and am interested in both high key and low key.

With the above in mind, these are the two backdrops Im considering....

http://www.lastolite.com/hilite-backgrounds.php
and ....
http://www.lastolite.com/singlecolourcollapsibles.php

I was going to go for the reversible white/black as I thought it sounded ideal, then I saw the Hilite and though its only white, I love the fact that the subject can be within inches without casting shadow ... but it is just white and Im wondering if the design isnt just a bit of a gimmick.

Does anyone own, or has used/seen a Hilite in use?
Any opinions on what you'd go for out of these two if you were looking to buy yourself?

As usual any feedback/opinions are gratefully received ... even if it just means me feeling even more indecisively confused! :bonk:
Ta!

I'm looking at both of these too :)

The HiLite looks great. Not too wide but you wouldn't need that with the subject being so close to the background.....

Tough decisions!

Well, after much dithering I finally committed to something!
Just ordered the Hilite with the hope that it will come in time for something I have on this weekend.
I'll let you know how I get on with it, whether its idiot proof etc etc :D

" Thick Mode "
can you explain why this hilite one doesn't allow shadows even when the model is within inches please.

" learning mode "

Click Glo's 1st link Shorn and you will see! (you lazy man!! ) :D

Glo (i'm on the case with the DVD's honest!) If you remember from focus, the guys had a grey background, when they put a gel coloured filter over the light and onto the background it produced a perfectly coloured background, even thougvh it was still grey. What I'm thinking is, if you put a gel over your light, inside the Hilite box it just might work????

Let us know how you get on..... I'm still sweathering over what to get :)

Glen .... what happened to those DVD's :bat:

Just a quick update to say Ive been too busy to test the Hilite yet ... in fact it only got opened in the early hours of Saturday morning!
Id just finished my shoot for my Nails comp (after deciding to use a black backdrop afterall) and was sat soaking off the nails of my model, when my bro decided to do the honours and open up the Hilite to check it over.

Although I havent used it yet, please be warned, if anybody goes ahead and buys one of these things do keep in mind the company behind it .... Lastolite .... I guess that should have told me something!
On taking it from its cover, the thing sprang into life like an inflatible dingy, sending surrounding objects in its path flying everywhere.... including yours truly!
At 7ftx5ft with a depth of about 8" in a 10'x12' furnished room, complete with a nail station in the middle, two lights/stands and fan/stand and being 1.00am with 3 tired bodies in the vicinity. You can imagine the carnage cant you!
Its safely back in its delivery box for now, though Im going to try & test it out later this week, if I get the chance.

EOS_JD ... have you purchased yet?

Glen .... what happened to those DVD's :bat:

oops! :embarrassed:

I haven't forgot just been busy doing the hard landscaping in the backgarden. Once the light packs up tonight, I'll try and copy one to test it.

;)

EOS_JD ... have you purchased yet?

Yes I have purchased some equipment off ebay of all places. It should be with me on Sunday (getting it delivered by a mate of mine).

3 x Elinchrom 400Bx units with stands, 2 brollies, a softbox, snoot & grid set, 2 x 16" reflectors, 2 x 21" reflectors, grid for the 21" reflector and lastly a white/black stand (same as the one you posted above but very slightly larger). 7' x 7' with an 8' train. http://www.photodeals.co.uk/home.php?cat=7&sort=orderby&sort_direction=0&page=1

it's not the one I really wanted but will do for starting out and I'll see where it takes me. If I need larger I'll do that but for the moment I'm in a pretty small area anyway so this is probably ok.

Looking forward to getting started :)

Lets see some images on that HiLite though......
