I have a set of Elinchrom D-Lite 4's which are excellent but only come as two in a kit. I could have done with 3 but this is why I am here.

I have been using one of the lights with a 16cm reflector to light the background white and the other light using the softbox on my subject. This obviously gives me limitations if I need a proper white background and thanks to Lightroom I can edit the rest but it would be so much easier to have a 3rd light. However, money rules a new purchase and I don't wish to purchase yet another Elinchrom just to light the background.

What would you recommend for me to get to just light a background effectively. I was thinking along the lines of two small floodlamps but I'm unsure as to whether they would be bright enough. Something small and portable would be great.

Forget floodlamps, their power compared to flash is insignificant and to get anything at all from them you will need an extremely long exposure.

Just get another flash. If you don't want to spend the money on an Elinchrom one, get something cheaper, it doesn't matter. Even hotshoe flashguns are usable for this

Thanks, I only asked as I saw someone with a setup and he was using what he called a broad light he got off eBay. He still needed two but they seemed to overexposed the background lovely

Garry's right. If you don't want to stump up for another Elinchrom, maybe a cheaper Interfit EX. Uses the same modifier mount.
