my close friend, shes practically my sister, has just had a baby and i want to get some photos for her but im unsure what to use as lighting really. would a flash be to harsh? should i use natural light? or would a softbox be a good idea? i really have no idea.
thanks

I use natural light when available, and a softbox when it's not. The softbox difuses it really nicely, and sometimes I find I can just get away with the modelling light instead of the flash.

:D thanks that looks good. i need to make myself a soft box then aha. il try my best with natural light aswell. i just want them to turn out nice, i already use off cameras but i thought just a flash might be too harsh, ill make myself a soft box and have a go cheers :)

If you need to practise getting the light right, then borrow/buy a life like doll that is about the right size. You may get some relection from the plastic, but it will give you an idea of what works and what doesn't, to a limited degree.
