Guys, iv got an old Black and White negative that i want to add some colour to.. i need to select just certain areas for colouring..

Ok, i need to know how to accuratly select an area and then colour it..

Thanks in advance guys..

Ps, forgot to mention that iv got it scanned onto my computer..

Also i was wondering what the difference was with scanning in 48 bit?? does it mean higher quality scans??

It would under normal circumstances, you get a better graduated colour depth but in this situation you're ... um, er ..... scanning B & W. You won't need all the colour detail you could put in. No point in having files that will be way toooooo big!

i only want to colour small areas of the image, maybe a paint brush type thing, just a retoutch.. im sure there is a way to do this but i cant work it out!! :bang:

Read up on layer masks & use "colour" adjustment layers & layer styles is the best way to do this.

If you create a new layer, set the layer mode to colour & paintbrush in areas that you wish to colour then that is a quick & easy way to do it (although not the best way by a long shot!). Another way is to colour in the area (on a new layer set to overlay or soft light) & then reduce the opacity.

if i wanted to do this and went to a photoshop tutorial what should i type in the index

Thanks for the help guys.. That link was very helpfull..

Well.. heres my effort.. Cc welcome..
