I'm quite new here so please excuse any etiquette foopas! (Though I hope I don't make any.)

I'm in the throws of buying a new D600 and have just rang my local Calumet store just to enquire as to whether they have one in stock. The answer was yes but just one and it's "B stock". It was explained that this just means it has been out of the box and the shutter fired a few times. I think the term "domo day" was used. So I add to that, it has been handled and the battery charged etc. The price is reduced by £100 and it comes with all the packaging etc and full warranty. (I prefer to buy items like this over the counter as opposed to on line and am not interested in a grey import). My question is would you buy this B stock item for a £100 discount? I have until tomorrow morning to think about it. Any opinions would be appreciated.

If I could go along and have a play and it was OK and came with full warranty then yes.

If I needed the camera asap then I probably would. Otherwise I reckon I would just place an order with them for a new one when they get stock.

You never really know what the history of the item is and never know if the sales staff are telling you (or if they even know) all the details. I've not used Calumet before but by all accounts they are reputable so I doubt they be trying to flog dodgy gear.

You could maybe ask for more discount?

Provided it's not had thousands of test shots fired and it's in 'as new' condition (not a grubby fingerprint, a speck of dust, or any scratches) and that the warranty is totally honoured, I'd go for it. If it's had a 100-200 test shots fired then I'd happily accept a £100 reduction.

On the basis you get a full warranty with it - absolutely no hesitation.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Appreciated. Think it's lookin like a runner.

I would have said 'yes' not long ago, but probably would go for a 'NO' now. Anything that gets returned for being a bit rubbish gets checked out by Canon and obviously passes their generous tests. There will be some good ones too, but I would expect the proportion of duffers to be a lot higher. Then you are stuck sending it in for a service and told that it is 'just' within the tolerance levels.
You may as well buy from ebay and use their returns procedure if it is awful

edit: I am specifically discussing lenses and other delicate equipment, not purely electronic components such as bodies

I would ask for a shutter count in writing with the warranty.
Just so if its been fired over a thousand times I wouldn't bother and buy new
