AV Sync - annoying!

Having just 'migrated' from a CRT TV to an LCD with home theatre system I am really annoyed at the apparent lip sync problems.

Anyone else got such issues?

Been on various AV forums and it seems that there is no real solution....none that I could find anyway.

Not any help but I get the same problem with my Samsung 32" CRT TV, it looks like it's more to do with the TV than the technology

When I reset the speaker system the sync is OK for about 15 minutes then it gradually gets worse....obviously due to the cumulative effect of the millisecond sync issue. The sound is delayed. I have seen gadgets that can adjust sync but they only seem to delay the sound and not the video. Seems that my video signal is ahead of the sound.

Anyone any suggestions?

Yes, but that seems to slow the sound (0 to 300ms settings) whereas I need to slow the video.

It may sound like a silly question but can you set it to a negative delay ie -100ms ?

video ahead of sound,
so not a video processing delay then?

Are you putting the sound out diectly from the surround amp to seperate speakers or using it as a feed to the TV speakers at the front?

I'm not upto date on the tech but does your dvd player or TV have a setting for frame rate (cinema detect or some movie detect or some such) ? It may be mucking stuff up by automatically doing fancy extra processing.

Its probably just that films are at a different frame rate from PAL video, the effect is less of a problem on NTSC because they more closely match film, but on PAL there's a problem of adding or dropping film frames, can't remember the detail. If its not done correctly during the DVD encoding when they make the dvd then everything drifts out of synch gradually getting worse until they can be bothered to throw in or remove some extra fames at a suitable chapter break point.

With a new tv you're probably watching more critically and just noticing something that has always been there?

I've found that if you have alternative soundtracks of dts vs normal 5.1 its sometimes better synch on the other soundtrack (eg. Scorpion King better on 5.1 than dts)

whats your setup, source for the audio/video, chain to projector etc..

Can you not connect the sky box to the amp?

I think your problem is coming from the audio being stripped and relayed to the amp from the TV

I've had a 42" plasma for 3.5 years now, without problem. Video from Sky+ box to TV, and audio to amp is my set up.

What's sending the audio signal though?

You can't not induce a delay if the tv is sending the audio on to another device.

optical out from sky to amp should be fine?

i agree, thats what ive got, everything feeds the amp, sky+ connected optically to the amp, no delay problems here

sky+ >optical> amp
dvd > dig coax > amp

surely if your going to use your amp to relay sound you should use it to relay the video through the amp as well, i think thats your problem
