Been looking through an awesome portfolio ( http://www.ruji.net/ ) and came across this picture,

is this a rig shot??? my spider senses say yes by the way the blur varies across the road in the foreground but then the car looks too far away compared to most rig shots ive seen. Also seems amazingly sharp if it was shot from a chase car. Not doubting the work any, just curious how it was done. Anybody......

I'm pretty sure that that is a chase car shot

It's actually quite easy to get sharp tracking shots, especially with VR/IS lenses..

Here is a tracking shot I did a little while back:

1/25th Shutter and 18mm

I would have thought that the rx7 shot was a slower shutter speed, but it looks to be on a smoother surface..

reckon your right george, something ive never tried, got a 70-200VR so i might have to give it a go in active mode, 1st for everything

To be honest you'll struggle with a minimum focal length of 70mm as the wider the angle and the closer the car the easier it is to reduce vibrations..
