Hi folks

I have a map that a customer wants printing quite large. Trouble is he has supplied it scanned in 4 sections. Unfortunately when I try to put them together in PS I've found they are slightly different sizes and parts are warped! This is proving a nightmare to make everything line up (all the roads and paths etc) so I wonder if there is any Mac software that can detect the lines on the map, resize/unwarp/align for me!

I'm probably asking too much but right now it's twisting me melon man :bonk:

Thanks

Thanks chaps - I tried that but it doesn't resize the individual sections :(

If you post the 4 images i'll join them for you. Post at www.sendspace.com and post link here...

Hi Ed

Do you have software that will do this? I fear it will take too long manually.

PTGUI,

http://www.ptgui.com/

Even has a version that runs on those pesky Macs ! :)

There is a trial version, so you can always give it a try before committing any cash.

Thanks John. I did look at that when doing a search but don't want to buy anything just for this one job. TBH I don't think anything will be able to correct the slight warping of the scans whilst resizing, rotating and stitching together :(

If you wanted to try the trial version, if it works, I could run the photos through my version ?

Just a thought.

Hi Ed

I intended to do it manually and i think i can do it pretty easy. No harm to try if you want me to...

Try Auto Pano Giga

There is a trial version available

John, I tried the trial but it didn't like stitching it together, although I had set some anchor points :(

Ed, I'm uploading now and will PM you the link if that's ok. Good luck!

That's the one I was just about to recommend, works great. I was introduced to it by a guy that does panoramics with his 70mm lens. He prints them massive on a 44" wide format printer, each pano comprises about 300 shots.

I tried it manually but not much luck. It dosen't seem like it was scanned in the usual manner. Using a few of the transform methods in photoshop it just wont all line up properly. I rotate it to where it should be and then make it smaller or bigger to what it should be but it just wont line up with the other piece of the map. I think he should rescan it...

Hi Ed

Thanks for trying. I had the same problems. You think you have it then you look the other end and it's all out, no matter what rotating/resizing you do!

I'll tell the client to rescan it.

many thanks :)

What about Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor). Works pretty well for single row pano's for me (and it's free)

right............are the scans at same resolution look in image/size, or as the small one been cropped?

something u can try is to start with the smallest and make its canvas size big enough to accomodate the rest of the images and drag the over one at a time, use free transform holding shift or ctrl (cant remember which) to keep aspect ratio and simply drag till its same size as the small one, see if edges join, if they do repeat as needed

Yes I had to do that as the files are not for public use.

I'd second the vote for Microsoft Research I.C.E. the latest version is 1.3.5. The cost is well within your budget. It's worth a go.
