Auto ISO for Canon 550D

I use AUTO ISO when shooting images at running events. I have a Nikon D7000. The speed is set at a min of 1/1000th and this allows me to choose the aperture that I want for a particular shot.
A friend uses AUTO at races on her Canon and is disappointed at the results. Can her Canon be set up in the same way?

The Canon XXXD range don't have the option to set a minimum shutter speed as far as I know. The only alternative should be to shoot in Shutter Priority (TV) with Auto Iso and set the shutter speed to 1/1000th or faster and let the camera adjust the aperture/ISO accordingly.

Thanks Steve, that helps me a lot. I've only just changed to aperture priority from shutter. Being able to choose what effect I want through aperture has helped me improve my images.

Use manual mode,set the shutter speed to 1000,set the aperture to whatever you want and use auto iso.

Bear in mind too that if your friend uses continuous shooting the 550D is slowwwww.
