....Whilst doing a photoshoot yesterday, I noticed that every time I selected the AF point on the extreme right of the diamond pattern, and then tried to focus on something, the Red 'box' flickered and would not bleep to confirm focus achieved. It was after about 1 hour of shooting and thinking I was doing or not doing correctly, did the penny drop and I realised the AF point does not have a complete Red square.

Has anyone else experienced this with the 9-point diamond shape?

I take it that no one has any experience of the focussing square problem then?

I might give Canon a ring.

I'm packed for Canada tomorrow morning but just for you I got the camera out and tried the other focus points. The right hand square lights up and beeps to confirm as does the one between 4 and 5 oclock from the middle. put it away after that :)

Hi Gilly I've checked mine, the 2 outer points dont appear as complete as the rest, but it locks on and beeps OK,
regarding these multiple point thingys, is it me? but I only ever use the centre focus point.

I'll check my 5 for you the next time I find it chuck and report back :)

Aw, thanks Robert. You have a great time in Canada.

Dave Scanlon - thanks for checking. Interesting that the outer ones of yours are incomplete squares too. The problem, as I mentioned is it doesn't lock on. I nearly always keep it set on the centre too. Occasionally and like last Saturday, I was doing a new born baby shoot. One of the compositions was he was lying on his tummy with his head on the right and body stretching out to the left. I wanted the point of focus on his eye area, hence trying to use the focus point on the right point of the diamond shape.

Geez, thanks df. Perhaps I am over re-acting, but it just wouldn't lock on and bleep as I expected it to.

I finally found my camera......it made me buy a battery grip though, so I figure you owe me £150 now.

All the focus points on mine are square (well, slightly oblong) and they all light up fully.

I did notice though that they can look a bit faint if you repeatedly focus in quick succession or if your image is massively out of focus when your selecting the point.
That "could" be my lamps though and not the camera

I'll pm you the bank details

Hi Gilly,
I have a 20D with the bleep switch off. I noticed that in AI servo mode no red square flash up. But I does in one shot and AI focus, until it start to track a moving object. So check which focusing mode your in.
Hope that helps.

- would that be the local bottle bank :lol:

I bet you are so chuffed with your battery grip. I know I am.

FranchiseJuan - You know you might have a point (subtle pun) there. I may well have been trying to get in too close with the 85mm and repeatedly pressing the shutter would cause only half of the rectangle to light up.

Hmm. I will wait and see what happens on Saturday shoot.

Thanks guys
