Aurora forecast.

I'll keep an eye on the forecast. Thanks for the heads up :)

Our aurora forecast, from Lancaster University, also works very well as a heavy cloud forecast.

Large moon forecast from about 4pm tonight as well as the moon is very close to the earth currently

Slight exaggeration. At it's furthest the moon is about 405,000km away. At it's nearest it's about 360,000km. So when it's at it's closest it's about 6% closer and 6% bigger in appearance. I don't think 6% bigger than usual is anything to get excited about. It is in fact a small enough difference that it's not going to be easy to notice it.

Not much auroras chance. Full moon and it rises at around 1700 and sets 0800 next day.

I was going by this article that said it was the biggest, brightest, closest moon of the year
Well, it is that. But:

Here's an interesting question: Given that human brings have been studying the moon for thousands of years, and have known that its orbit is elliptical for about 500 years, why was the word "supermoon" coined by an astrologer around 1980?

Is it perhaps that Astronomers were, back then, empiricists but Astrologers are romantics. It is only in recent(?) years that science in general has (had to go) gone 'vox populi'???
