Hi Guys

I need some help from you Audio experts on the forum ..

So here`s the problem . I have 2 JBL Control 1 audio speakers which I have hooked up to a Cambridge Audio amp (I haven`t used this for a long long time) and I would like to use this as a stand alone speaker system for my New 65" QLED Samsung TV - basically I`m hoping to get a better sound from the TV rather than rush out and buy a sound bar seeing as I have this audio equipment sitting here doing nothing ..

On the the back of the amp there are RCA in/out puts , its an older model , There are no HDMI nor USB Outputs on the Cambridge amp .. SO how do I hook up the amp to the TV ? would it be possible to get a cable with RCA jacks on one end that has a USB on the other end that can be plugged into the output RCA of the amp and therefor I can put the USB into the back of the TV ?

There are NO spare HDMI in puts on the TV as there are only 2 and both are being used , however there are spare USB`s so that`s why I intend to go down the RCA to USB route ..

Is this possible to do ? in order to get the sound from the Speakers

Thanks in advance for any help

Which model of TV and amp?
Does the TV have a 3.5mm headphone socket?
If so You could use a 3.5mm to 2 rca cable...
There may be other options depending on the model of the tv/amp.
You need to use an appropriate output on the TV to an appropriate input on the amp.

Hi Bob

Thanks for your reply but unfortunately the TV does Not have a 3.5 headphone socket

The amp model is this one Cambridge Amp .. you will see there are no USB nor HDMI out`s because its an older model , I believe I bought this back in 2006

My plan was to out put from the amp Via the Aux with an RCA to USB cable then plug this into the back of the TV into the spare USB ..

The TV is this model Samsung 65" TV ...

I would have thought its possible to use the amp and speakers along with the TV , the only hurdle I see is how the both can be connected ..

Thank you for your input

(Not an expert, especially on new tvs!)

If you scroll down that linked article, you can see that it has "Digital optical Audio Out" port which would allow you to buy a DAC to convert the digital audio to an analogue signal your amp would understand with RCA cables...

I'm not sure connecting USB-RCA would work as I suspect the TV would see the USB as an input rather than an output. I could easily be wrong though...

Whats the others have suggested should work. If not one of the HMDI sockets on your TV should be marked as HMDI(ARC) which will allow you to control sound devices from the TV

One of these is the higher end version of the Amazon box linked previously:
The downmixing really helps bring out the centre channel for dialogue which can otherwise get lost in the more simple conversions from a surround sound source (the Amazon box will only convert 2.1 sources).

A cheaper option would be to get a second hand AV amp from eBay, though!

Thanks a lot Guys for all the suggestions its much appreciated ...

Just goes to show , Not only is this a great forum for Photography/Video its also great for helping others with Various subjects ..

@anwa - I hear what you`re saying re-the Downmixing for dialogue etc , it makes sense really .. however I opted for the cheaper ""PROZOR"" product suggested by Bob although if I get this up and running and it sounds good I may just throw the towel in and eventually buy the "Pulse Eight Dolby DAC" ..

I used to have the Control ONE speakers set up in my attic along with a Computer as part of small studio kind of thing , they really are powerful little things that can produce a fairly decent sound ...Once I get this up and running I`ll let you all know how it turned out ..

Do you not have any phono sockets on the TV that you can just plug into ??

NO I do not have any phono sockets that I can just plug into, If I did I wouldn`t be here asking for help...

If you refer to Post 3 above ^^^^^^ it shows the make and model of my TV with all the specs concerning input/output sockets

How will this work with an old analogue stereo amp?

@Bob Would I be correct in thinking that "If" I were to go along this route I would still need a cable only this time it would need to be HDMI to RCA ? ..

No, hdmi (arc) is really for use when you have an av amp.
I've got my xbox, sky Q etc connected to my av amp, then one hdmi from my amp to my TV. By using the arc hdmi connection on my TV it allows video and audio from my amp to run to my TV, and audio from my TV to run back to my amp.
This means if I watch say youtube on my TV, the TV sends the audio back through my amp and the sound comes out my speakers....
