I know many of you are mountain bikers and appreciate a challenge. How about a 48mile ride through some of the Highland's finest scenery - and help some local charities to boot!

Full details can be found here however the basic details are:

  • Event takes place on 30th August.
  • 48 mile or 20 mile routes available.
  • Mostly track or trail but some "interesting" sections with a range of gradients and surfaces.
  • Takes place in Glen Affric. See one of Scotland's hidden gems in a way very few others ever do.
So Techno-Geek, take your trike, Hacker your new Hardrock and others your iron horses whatever their make or grade.

I can arrange local bike hire if you want to come but don't have a bike or cannot transport it up north. PM me for that.

Shimano is the ubiquitous manufacturer of quality cycle components. Should you need spares there is likely to be a shop sticking parts for them. Not to say there isn't others or that others would not be very good mind.

If you want the best of British then buy Hope brakes but expect a large bill!

This event might not be suitable for your bike Tony (the organiser is deliberately piutting in some challenging sections to the course in response to requests from previous participants) . There are other good events up here that may be suited. Let me know if you want any help finding out about any in this area. I would think that Speyside might be the best place as they have invested in some great paths and cycleways as part of the new Cairngorms National Park.

Ah not to worry then

Can any brake handles be fitted up to drum brakes?

Sorry it is not on topic

They certainly can. You just need a good lever and a bit of cable. Best taken to your local, friendly bike shop who will have this done in 20 minutes flat.

Techno-geek, can you do wheelies??

 I have tried but brought it back down after like 4 inches off the floor

That has a very heavy front end and didn't want it fooling on top of me :D

Sounds interesting.... might have to have a serious think about this.... it's a long way North though so will have to make a holiday out of it if I can make it.

I just thought about this and i don't think i could do it. If it is over ruff terrain i think i will get in to all sort of problems. Unless i get monster truck wheels stuck on there

There might be some road racers here in norfolk but i am not quite sure.
