Yes
Just got my 400d and BG-E3 grip, but I can't work out how to attach the grip. I'm probably being rather dim, but when I open the 400d battery compartment, and try attaching the grip, the battery compartment door is in the way.

If it is the same as my 5D there is a little silver bar with a screw on the inside hinge. That little screw needs to be pushed to one side to remove the cover. Don't forget to keep it somewhere safe so you can use the camera without the grip (if you ever want to) I keep mine with my memory cards when I have my grip on.

hope that helps

There's a little tab sticking out of the hinge pin....slide it along and the battery compartment door will fall away.

Bob

Also, if its like Nikon do, there should be a slot in the battery grip to store the battery door cover :)

Thanks, just removed it with no major disasters hehe.
The 400d feels massive compared to my 350d!

selloltape the little pin to the inside of a matchbox to keep it safe.

Yeah the door itself pops off, god knows where I'd leave it at work though, on a shoot it can stay in my bag but not while I'm doing club work.

there's a slot in the grip to hold the door
RTFM!

Quick snap of my 400d with grip and flashgun attached. I can see my arms aching for the first few weeks of working with this, it's ginormous!

looks good chicca, hows the car coming on?

Car? *looks puzzled*

On my 350 grip and my 40D grip there is a slot on the grip to keep the battery cover so you don't loose it.

Yep theres a slot in the grip for you to store the cover, definately the best place for it. And I agree it's amazing how much bigger the camera feels with the grip attached.

PS reattach your strap so that it's connected to the camera and the grip, makes it much easier when switching between landscape and portrait, at least it does for me:)

Where's the slot? I'm having such a blonde day today.

On the section that slides into the battery compartment of the camera is a area where you store the battery door......it does take a bit of finding at 1st but keep looking and you will find it.

If you still have no joy i will post a pici in a bit

Did your grip come with a little diagram thingy? It all looked very confusing on mine until I followed that, showed where to store it etc.

The grip I use on my 40d is the same Canon grip I had with my 30D... will it have the little place for the battery door as there were no instructions.. (bought it used)

Yes the canon grip for the 20/30/40 all have a holder on the outer side of the bit which fits into the battery slot of the camera

I have put the battery door in the grip.. but it fits in all 4 directions.. is there a specific way to do it?

Janice,

Mine has a shaped lip and only fiits one way, Hinge to the back and the inside of the door facing out

Yes I bought it used, and hubby found the little compartment for me this morning. He has his uses.

It's there.

i very seldom use the "extra" controls on my grip, but ive never run short of battery power on a wedding, and even gone out the next day , shooting on the same pair of batteries. i have two charged spares , just in case.
it does feel a lot bigger and heavier with a grip, but i have hands like shovels anyway.
my mrs doesnt like grips cos of her delicate little handypoos.
and her 5D is about as heavy as my 350 with grip.i,m just getting used to her old 30 now.
30D with grip? i wonder.
