If anyone has this device can you please tell me how to turn off predictive text once and for all. This thing is driving me up the wall. I've tried all sorts of suggestions like 'you might have to go into languages to do it', I really want help from someone that has one. Sorry if it sounds like a rant.

I don't have one but on Android devices it's usually in the settings for the keyboard which are normally found in Language and Keyboard/ Keyboard and Input/settings Because the settings menus can be different you may find yours under a slightly different heading. I always turn predictive text off, it's a waste of a good education ;)

Thanks for your reply Hugh but tried everything in languages and nothing works. I'm struggling to log into certain sites I've used for years as it won't let me type my email address which ends in virgin media.com it spells Virginia it's took me ages to type this reply. This things going in the bin shortly if I can't sort it.

Install a third party keyboard and default to it. Then in the settings for the keyboard app make sure predictive is off.

Chances are it will be easier this way especially if you can't switch off the default option.

As a recommendation I use swiftkey phone and tablet versions respectively and they work flawlessly.

That's a good idea, I personally use 'Hackers Keyboard' (sounds bad but it's not really) because it's the only one I've found that lets me have the number keys in a row above the letters on the main keyboard.

With swift key did you follow the instructions for setting it up after the initial download as noted below (taken form Swiftkey website)

1. Enable SwiftKey

Tap on button 1 “Enable SwiftKey″, then tap on the “SwiftKey″ check button (the list will also show previous SwiftKey versions on your phone). An Android warning message will appear. Press “OK” to continue.

Note: SwiftKey does not collect data from sensitive fields such as password fields, and the language models it creates are stored on your phone’s SD card or in your tablet’s memory. Any data we do collect is covered by our Privacy Policy.

2. Select SwiftKey

Tap on button 2 “Select SwiftKey”, and then tap on the “SwiftKey″ radio button to make SwiftKey your default keyboard.

I tapped on the first button and it ticked OK
I tapped on the second button but it didn't change, I didn't get the option to go further.

You might also have to select the new keyboard when you first go to type something, should only happen that once though if it does.

OK I've started to get my head around the SwiftKey keyboard but even though I've set it to English UK I can't find the pound sign.

Pound sign if I remember correctly is under numerics and then a further key on the left side ......can't remember if it is ALT or a row of dots. It will make sense though when you see it.
