Bought myself a cheap SkyWatcher telescope from the local free ads with the intentions of connecting my Nikon D90 and trying out some astrophotography (this is all your fault @skd lol)

The scope in question is a SkyWatcher Skyhawk-114/1000 EQ1 Telescope which uses a 'standard' 1.25" 2x barlow. I then purchased a Nikon fit T2 adapter ring thinking it would fit to the barlow, but it doesnt.

After some further searching online I found THIS which seems to be the missing piece to my puzzle... will this in fact fit with my T2 adapter and get me started or would I be better just biting the bullet and spending the extra for THIS?

Any advice is greatly appreciated as I've very little idea what I'm doing and don't want to be spending money I don't need to.

Thanks
Andrew

You will need a T adapter to suit your telescope, and also a T2 to fit your camera.

The T2 & T adapter will connect together, more than likley screws together, then you have your adapter to fit your telescope.

These are what I bought for my camera

Sony T2

Celestron T adapter

This was the 2nd set I bought as I thought I would be cheep and buy off ebay, but that was a mistake the locking ring on the T2 apater was 3mm smaller then what is on the lens, but the buyer was not willing to take it back as he was 100% sure I ordered the wrong part for the wrong camera (he tried telling me I never had a Sony SLT:bang:).

anymore questions feel free to ask.

Cheers for the info @skd , very much appreciated.

Looking at that then it's the T adapter I'm missing so I've just ordered one, hopefully it will fit and I'll have no further problems or delays.

Did you use a moon filter with yours?

Nope, I shot in full manual, using RAW then converted in PS.

I am still a newbie at it myself.

Yea, I deleted it as someone cropped my name etc out and tried passing off as their own on Facebook

Dirty barstools :(

Been the victim of that myself and it's not a pleasant feeling, especially as I knew the person who did it and actually classed them as a pal. On the up side tho, it show's how good a shot it was

That is true,

I am happy to upload it again if you wish to see it again

I will sort that out today for you. I'm just off to bed as I have been working night,

Or you can find it on my photography Facebook page, just look for skd digital photography

What are you wanting to take photos of?

You may find you can't reach focus on that 'scope. Newtonians are notorious for having focal points which are lower than the position you can get the sensor to. The way around that is to move the mirror up the tube slightly, but that involves some DIY. You will also find that the mount is pretty light and that will cause you problems with shake - at a guess, even the shutter firing will cause the 'scope to wobble... Good luck though - astrophotography is quite difficult to do well. If you want more help, head over to http://www.stargazerslounge.com - loads of great astrophotographers there....

My first aim is to get some decent shots of the moon, then if I can, I'd like to see if I can get any of nearby planets. Thanks for the heads up on that site, will check it out now.
