Hi, what are the main rules you should have when organising a piccy comp?

Any help to reduce the chances of things going wrong would help. TIA

Hi,

The best piece of advice I can give you is to check out http://www.pro-imaging.org

Pro Imaging campaign for the rights of all photographers not to be ripped off in competitions, to ensure that usage rights are clear and fair, and that ultimately the long term rights belong to the owner of the image.

"Normal" entry rules may specify...

1) Age of entrant
2) Age of entry
3) Subject matter
4) Entry format
5) Size restrictions (important if you accept entries via email)
6) number of entries permitted
7) professional rules (whether entries may or may not be available for purchase)

To try and avoid image theft I add a rule stating: Submission of your entry is taken as assurance that the work is your own....

Finally, make a clear statement regarding privacy of entrants details, and the limits of any usage you intend for the image after close of the competition.
